Did you already order your gas strut?
Before you can proceed with installing a gas strut, you must first measure the dimensions of your application. Once you have these measurements, input them into our calculator tool. Simply enter the dimensions and application details, and the tool will take care of the rest. It will automatically calculate the precise gas strut measurements for your application, allowing you to move on to the next step. Did you already have a gas strut earlier? Then you can take a look at our replacement tool, here you can fill in your product number. If you know the dimensions of the gas strut you need, you can use our configurator.
Start the process and install a gas strut
With your gas strut in hand, you can start the installation process on your application. Before marking the screw points on your application, ensure you understand the following results from the calculator tool:
A [inch]
The A measurement represents the distance from the hinge to the point of attachment of the gas strut on the cover in the lengthwise direction of the cover, in inches.
B [inch]
The B measurement represents the distance from the hinge to the point of attachment of the gas strut on the cover in the height direction of the cover, in inches. If you are using a bracket (available in our webshop), the distance from the bottom of the cover to the attachment point of the gas strut is 20mm.
C [inch]
The C measurement is the horizontal distance between the hinge and the attachment point of the gas strut to the fixed world, measured to the middle point of rotation of the mounting part.
D [inch]
The D measurement is the vertical distance between the hinge and the attachment point of the gas strut to the fixed world, measured to the middle point of the screw eye, ball, or spindle.
Marking the Correct Points
Mark the calculated points as indicated above on your application. You can find the inch measurements in the assembly drawing created by the calculator tool. Ensure that you mark the points precisely as indicated by the calculator tool to ensure a proper fit of the gas strut in the end.
Install A Gas Strut
After marking the points on your application, it’s time to install your gas strut. Attach the mounting components of the gas strut to the marked points. Gas springs must always be installed in their fully extended state. The best way to achieve this is by having someone assist you, with one person holding the application lid in place while the other person installs the gas spring.
Gasspringsshop recommends using stainless-steel self-tapping screws to attach each mounting part. After securing the mounting components to your application, the final step is to snap the gas strut into place. You can do this by opening the lid of your application and snapping the gas strut onto the mounting parts. It’s crucial to ensure that you mount the gas strut with the narrow rod end positioned lower than the gas-filled piston.
